Commerce, Venice, Chinese
This is how we roll… Its was Friday night and I am playing with some friends, small stakes, which we do just about every Friday. My friend BillG3rd 30th birthday was that Sunday. I decide that as a birthday gift I will buy him into a $250k garuntee at the Commerce if we both cash in the tourney we are playing. Of course, we both do, and book flights late Friday night (actually Sat 2am) for departure to LAX at 9am. Low and behold, we are at the Commerce Casino by Saturday morning ready to play. Talk about spur of the moment. Too bad we both got coolered with flopped or turned straights to only get drawn out by flopped sets filling up. Ouch.
We spent the rest of the trip playing cash games and hanging with our friend who lives in LA. He took us to Venice Beach for the day. We hung on the beach, walked the boardwalk, ate dinner, and cruised to our friends place to hang. We got to celebrate my friends birthday LA style. Not bad.
On the poker front… even though we both lost the tourney we came to play, I was able to win more than enough to cover all the cash game staking I gave him and my expenses. I had a good run on the 5-10NL game and I played Chinese poker every night. I even got a chance to play with Barry Greenstein at the adjacent Chinese table. I ran well in those games too. My friend was really impressed with how well the Commerce treats it’s ‘high stakes’ players, with free food and drink (whenever/whatever) and the stretch limo ride to the airport.
I hardly think of myself as a ‘high stakes’ player – haha.
